Social media star Jake Paul is parting ways with the Disney Channel after his stunts recently caused a stir in his Beverly Grove neighborhood, the actor announced on Twitter Saturday.
“My team, Disney Channel, and I have come to the agreement it’s finally time for me to move from the Disney family and ‘Bizaardvark’,” Paul said in the statement, referring to his show on the channel.
“Being a part of the Disney family for the past two years was incredible and a dream come true. I love my cast mates and will continue to support Disney,” Paul wrote. He added that he wants to focus on his “personal brand,” “business ventures” and “working on more adult acting roles.”
The network also released a statement saying that they thank Paul for his work.
“We’ve mutually agreed that Jake Paul will leave his role on the Disney Channel series ‘Bizaardvark.’” the statement reads. “We thank Jake for his good work on the TV series for the past 18 months and extend our best wishes to him.”
Aside from his role on the show, Paul has also become an internet sensation, thanks to his eye-catching stunts that include lighting furniture on fire in an empty swimming pool.
Paul has over 8.5 million followers on Instagram and YouTube.
A neighborhood meeting is planned to discuss the possibility of filing a class-action public nuisance lawsuit against the 20-year-old.
“It used to be a nice quiet street and now we’re just like this war zone” neighbor Maytal Dahan told KTLA earlier this week. “We are families here, and we’re more than happy to have them live here if they’re respectful to their neighbors, but they’re not.”
“The neighbors hate me,” Paul acknowledged when KTLA was outside his home on Monday.
He, at one point, climbed onto the KTLA news van.
Fans, mostly young girls, also gathered outside the home, as Paul apparently does not keep his address secret.
When asked how he felt about neighbors describing living next to him as “a living hell” and “a circus,” Paul responded: “I mean, people like going to circuses, right?”
In their statement, Disney Channel did not acknowledge the recent negative spotlight on Paul, nor did they specify why they decided to part ways with the young star.
