130 Hearing-Impaired Children Among Hundreds Evacuated in Wildfire Near Mountain High

Firefighters on Friday night responded to a rapidly growing wildfire that was threatening structures and two campgrounds in Wrightwood, officials said.

The 100-acre Pine Fire, first reported at 9:37 p.m., was burning heavy timber on a hill near Mountain High ski resort, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

The flames were making their way toward Table Mountain, according to Capt. Josh Wilkins.

Four night-dropping helicopters were responding to the fire along with three strike teams, Wilkins said.

Evacuations were ordered for Camp Care where an estimated 90 Girl Scouts were camping.

As many as 300 other people, including 130 deaf and hearing-impaired children, were being evacuated from Table Mountain and Lion’s campgrounds, according to a tweet from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Several structures were also being threatened.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
