Shirly Isom, 74, and Troy Isom, 89, were victims of blunt force trauma and died after being transported to a hospital Friday afternoon, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Dave Coleman said at the time.

A K-9 unit was brought to the scene and helped search the large property, where investigators spent Friday evening collecting evidence.

Authorities initially released a description of the man they were searching in connection to the incident, but later retracted their statement.

Neighbor Lorrie Guzzy said she and another neighbor saw a man in the area that day that appeared to be “suspicious” and “homeless.”

Robert Mason, who lives nearby, said the man “looked kind of scruffy.”

“He had this huge — it wasn’t like a backpack — a bag of something,” said Mason, who described the man as approximately 5 feet 8 inches, wearing a hoodie and looking down as he walked toward the Isom’s home.

The residence was in an affluent hillside community.

Their exact cause of death was not yet released.

KTLA’s John A. Moreno contributed to this report.
