A hit-and-run crash in San Bernardino on Friday evening left a 13-year-old girl dead and her two sisters hospitalized, authorities and the victims’ mother said.
The two-vehicle collision occurred about 9:05 p.m. at the intersection of West Rialto Avenue and South Arrowhead Avenue (map), said Lt. Travis Walker of the San Bernardino Police Department.
A Kia occupied by two men was traveling northbound on Arrowhead when it broadsided an Acura Integra carrying three female occupants, according to a news release.
The Acura had been headed eastbound on Rialto and was passing through the intersection when it was struck, the release said.
After the crash, the two male suspects fled on foot but were apprehended by officers about a mile away, with the help of witnesses, police said.
The 13-year-old girl, believed to have been in the front passenger seat of the Acura, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The car’s other passenger and driver were transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center in unknown condition but were expected to survive.
Rosa Tarabay said the three victims were her daughters — Samantha, who died in the collision, and Tiffany, 16, and Amber, 21, who were injured.
On Saturday morning, Rosa Taribay wiped away tears as she stood near the crash site.
“I just can’t believe that they would just take off running instead of trying to help my kids,” she said.
The suspects, who suffered minor injuries, were identified as driver Martin Ahmad Mosby, 23, and passenger David Brass, 24, according to officials.
They were taken to the West Valley Detention Center, where Mosby was booked for vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run, and Brass was booked on suspicion of being an accessory to a crime.
Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the collision, the Police Department said.
