A Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service Saturday predicted critical fire weather conditions due to gusty winds and low humidity in the coming days in much of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties .
The warning was expected to be in effect 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a chance of it being extended beyond Monday evening, according to an NWS alert.
A moderate Santa Ana wind event would bring northeasterly winds predicted to peak around 30 mph with 50 mph gusts and isolated bursts up to 60 and 70 mph in the mountains.
Humidity was also expected to “rapidly lower into the single digits by noon Sunday,” the NWS alert stated.
The combination of high winds and low humidity was expected to cause critical fire weather conditions.
Lighter winds were expected Tuesday.
