A Qantas Airways flight was forced to return to Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday after water began leaking on the plane, according to the airline.
Qantas Flight 94 took off from LAX just before 12:15 a.m., according to flight-tracking website flightaware.com. The plane landed safely at LAX shortly after 2:30 a.m.
The plane turned around because of a water leak, according to Qantas.
“Crew on board did everything they could to help customers, including moving them to unaffected areas and providing spare blankets so they could stay dry,” a statement from the airline read.
The statement added that there were no safety concerns because of the leak, but that the captain made the decision to turn back over concerns of passenger comfort.
Those on board were given overnight accommodations in L.A., according to the statement.
“Community” actress Yvette Nicole Brown was a passenger on the plane and described the incident.
“It looked like at first that someone had spilled like a soda or something, cause a little trickle was coming down, and then we noticed that it became like a river down both aisles,” she said.
Brown called the incident scary.
“It was the most scary thing I’ve ever seen, because I’m not a great flier anyway, so it was like, ‘well there shouldn’t be water in an electrical thing in the air,’ so that kind of scared me,” she said.
Brown added, It was a double decker, so where was the water going? We were upstairs, so I was thinking, it’s got to be bad downstairs, and sure enough it rained on all of them.”
Other passengers on board the plane tweeted about the incident, including pictures which showed water leaking overhead and water flooding the plane’s aisle.
“Not a dry seat in the house,” Alli Oughtred wrote on Twitter. She tweeted a separate photo that read, “plane flooding.”
Twitter user NatashaisaBookJunkie posted a photo of the leaking ceiling and wrote, “Who says it can’t rain inside a plane?”
The issue that led to the leaking was being worked on, according to Qantas.
It was not immediately clear when the affected passengers would be departing LAX again for Australia.
