1 killed in shooting outside Hollywood cannabis event

A man was killed and another was wounded following a shooting in Hollywood Saturday afternoon.

The shooting was reported around 2:15 p.m. on the 6500 block of Sunset Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers arrived at the scene and found one man who was dead and another suffering from undisclosed injuries. That man was conscious and breathing, police said, but his exact injuries are unclear.

The injured man was taken to the hospital by ambulance and was listed in stable condition.

Police say the shooting was triggered by a fight outside a cannabis event.

“A struggle over a bag would suggest some sort of robbery. Given that it was a cannabis event, I think it’s possible there was marijuana or money involved,” said Los Angeles Police Lt. Jon Radtke.

Two people believed to have been a part of the altercation were under arrest Saturday evening.

Detectives are working to determine if the shooting was gang-related, although police were confident that none of the men involved in the shooting were homeless.
