Actor, fitness model and reality television star Greg Plitt may have been running on tracks for a stunt before he was fatally struck by a train in Burbank, officials said Monday.
Photographs obtained by KTLA late Sunday purport to show him in the moments before and after he was hit and killed by a Metrolink train, which, according to officials, he may have been trying to race.
Two images showed Plitt, 37, standing near the tracks Saturday afternoon a short time before he was struck by the Metrolink train near the downtown Burbank station and Magnolia Boulevard overpass, according to the bystander who took the photo.
Another photo taken in the aftermath of the collision showed what appeared to be his body covered in some sort of yellow sheet between the tracks.
Plitt, who had been filming at the time with three other men, was standing directly on the tracks when he was hit, police said.
Although it was still unclear what Plitt was filming, a fitness video on his YouTube channel from September 2013 had showed him performing various work out moves around train tracks as part of a 30-day fitness test.
In one shot of the video, he is seen working out with his back to a Metrolink train that is passing not far behind him. A locator of where the shoot took place was not provided.
Investigators said the group from Saturday had been videotaping in a restricted area and did not have a permit to film there.
The cameras were seized as evidence to aid the investigation into the incident.
Police would also be checking area businesses for any surveillance video.
Meanwhile, a makeshift memorial has been erected around the spot where Plitt died. By Monday morning, mourners had left candles, flowers and even workout gear to honor the fitness expert.
Plitt, a West Point graduate and retired U.S. Army Ranger, had appeared on the Bravo reality television show “Work Out” and regularly appeared on men’s health and fitness covers.
As an actor, he was credited in minor film roles in several movies, most notably “Terminator Salvation,” “The Good Shepherd,” and “Grudge Match,” according to his Internet Movie Database page.
Plitt was also appearing in another new Bravo reality series called “Friends to Lovers.” The show was currently airing on the network.
“This is a terrible tragedy,” Bravo tweeted after Plitt’s death was confirmed by the L.A. County Coroner’s office. “Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with Greg Plitt’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
