A woman was fatally struck by a suspected hit-and-run driver in Highland Park Friday morning.
The crash was reported around 8:30 a.m. in the 5600 block of Aldama Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim was found lying in the street.
Police blocked off the street in the residential neighborhood and a canopy was set up where the victim was killed, aerial video from Sky5 showed.
Neighbors told KTLA the victim was a woman in her 60s who lived on Aldama Street. She went on daily walks and was crossing the street when she was struck by a speeding driver who did not stop, neighbors said. Her identity was not immediately released.
LAPD officers were canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance video.
An LAPD unit was also stationed in the parking lot of a nearby grocery store shortly after the crash.
Authorities are looking for a black Chevrolet Tahoe in connection with the crash.
No further details about the crash have been released.
