Los Angeles police officers confirmed an officer-involved shooting Sunday night that left one man dead in South Los Angeles.

The shooting occurred on East 45th Street and Ascot Avenue, police said. Officers were called to the scene after reports of two men with guns.

The victim was described as 18- to 22-year-old Hispanic man.

“He had his arms to the side when they jumped out and they didn’t say nothing. They didn’t give him no kind of orders,” said Crystal Peterson, a witness to the shooting. “The police officer in front of him shot him one time. He fell on the ground and then the officer that was in front of him took two steps and shot him three more times.”

A handgun was discovered at the scene and another man is in custody, police stated in a press conference.

No officers were injured in the shooting.
