The suspect in a Long Beach shooting death from Sunday night remains at large after fleeing from police on foot, according to authorities.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1600 block of Gaviota Avenue at 8:46 p.m. on Sunday, police said. At the scene, a man was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

The man, who remains unidentified as of Monday morning, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

At about 12:34 a.m., a possible suspect was found in a vehicle and officers engaged in a pursuit. The suspect eventually fled from the vehicle and took off on foot in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Walnut Avenue.

Long Beach police told KTLA at about 5:30 a.m. Monday that officers were still searching for the suspect. Authorities said a perimeter was established around the area and SWAT was activated.

The officials did not say that there is any threat to the public. The investigation was ongoing as of Monday morning.

No description for the suspect has been released.
