A toddler died Sunday afternoon after being pulled from a residential pool in North Hollywood and rushed to a hospital in grave condition, authorities said.
Officers received a “critical missing” call about 3:17 p.m. and responded within minutes to a home in the 5900 block of Craner Avenue (map), said Lt. Brian Morrison of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The boy was pulseless and not breathing when he was found in the pool at the home, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. It was unclear how long he had been underwater.
Witnesses and LAPD officers participated in a rescue effort before paramedics arrived at the scene, the LAFD said on Twitter.
Fire Department personnel transported the toddler to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident was ruled an accidental drowning, Morrison said.
“As always, we’d like to remind families to exercise vigilance, anyone that has a pool,” he said. “Regardless of safety measures — whether you have a child gate, or anything such as that … accidents can happen at any time.”
Neighbor Newdon Boteju said he has known the residents of the house where the drowning occurred for six years.
He described them as “a really nice family” who had two sons and a daughter, none of whom were toddlers.
