A man who was wanted in connection to a murder investigation and was taken into custody following an hourslong standoff in Santa Monica was identified by sheriff’s deputies Sunday.
David Carrillo, 28, was detained outside a Santa Monica apartment building following the Saturday standoff, Sergeant Cochran with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau stated in a department news release.
Carrillo was being sought as part of a murder investigation stemming from a Feb. 10 incident in the 8000 block of Vermont Avenue (map) in Los Angeles, the Sheriff’s Department stated Saturday.
He was being held in lieu of $1 million bail, the department news release stated.
Saturday’s standoff began around 12:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Ocean Park Boulevard (map) when SWAT and Major Crimes Bureau personnel responded to the apartment complex.
“For several hours, there were numerous attempts to have the suspect exit the location peacefully,” a department release stated Saturday, adding that he refused to comply and remained inside.
The man walked out of the building after tear gas was fired, and then attempted to re-enter it.
A sheriff’s K-9 then grabbed hold of Carrillo and he was detained by deputies without further incident, according to the news release.
A booking photo was not released Sunday.
News images Saturday showed a shirtless Carrillo being escorted by authorities away from the building with what appeared to be a cast or bandage on his left foot.
