Man Sought in Fatal Road Rage Fight in Jurupa Valley

Riverside County Sheriff's detectives released a composite sketch of a man sought in a fatal road rage altercation in Jurupa Valley on Jan. 5, 2015.

Authorities in Riverside County were searching Monday for a man involved in a road-rage incident that turned deadly in Jurupa Valley earlier this month.

Deputies received a call around 4:40 p.m. on Jan. 4 about a fight between two men in the intersection of Avenue Juan Bautista and Skyview Road, according to a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Jurupa Valley Station.

By the time deputies arrived the men were gone.

Investigators later learned the physical altercation began as the result of road rage between two motorists, the release stated.

Several hours later, one of the men, identified as 55-year-old Jerry Lakes, checked himself into the hospital for pain resulting from injuries received during the fight, according to the release.

Lakes’ medical condition continued to decline and he died on January 12.

Detectives were searching for the second man involved in the fight who was described as a Hispanic man in his 30s driving a light-colored Jeep Liberty.

No other information about the investigation was being released.
