The shooting was reported by the victim at about 1:19 a.m. after he exited the 10 Freeway and called 911, Lt. Smith with the Los Angeles Police Department stated.

The victim told authorities he initially spotted the gunman while driving northbound on the 110 Freeway.

As the victim began to transition to the westbound 10 Freeway, the gunman opened fire, according to Smith.

Authorities initially indicated the shooting took place while the driver was still on the 110 Freeway.

The victim told investigators he heard two shots, one of which struck him in the back, said Officer Francisco Villalobos of the Police Department.

Traffic was at a standstill on the 110 Freeway after a driver was shot on Jan. 29, 2016.

The wounded driver exited the freeway at Normandie Avenue in order to call 911, Smith said.

Medical crews met the victim at the Shell gas station on the corner of West 20th Street and Normandie Avenue (map), Villalobos said.

Video showed medical crews treating a man who managed to stand up and get out of his vehicle before being taken to a waiting ambulance.

Bullet holes were visible in the passenger side door of the man’s four-door sedan, video showed.

The shooting victim was in stable condition at California Hospital Medical Center, according to Smith.

The shooter, who was still outstanding, was described as a man in his early 20s. He was driving a late 2002 light colored sedan, according to Smith.

The southbound lanes of the 110 Freeway were temporarily closed at 9th Street due to police activity, the California Highway Patrol Tweeted.

Investigators were searching the freeway for evidence in the shooting, Humphries said.

The freeway was reopened about 2:40 a.m., according to Villalobos. It was unclear if anything was found.
