San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man in Victorville on Thursday.

The deputies responded to the intersection of Mariposa Road and Locust Avenue for reports of a pedestrian hit by two vehicles, department spokesperson Mara Rodriguez said.

According to the Victor Valley News Group, when deputies arrived at about 10 a.m., they discovered the pedestrian was “jumping in and out of traffic, just prior to being struck by the two vehicles.”

“The man proceeded to get up, and ran towards deputies with an unknown object, according to an eyewitness,” the outlet added.

Officers then opened fire, sending at least five rounds toward the man, witnesses told VVNG.

The man was struck at least once and was declared dead at the scene, Rodriguez said.
