Man fatally shot by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department near Whittier

A man was fatally shot by at least one Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy in West Whittier-Los Nietos on Sunday, the Sheriff’s Department confirmed.

The shooting occurred in the 10000 block of Obregon Street near Eduardo Avenue at 4:53 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies from the Pico Rivera Station were on patrol when they saw a man walking in the middle of the street, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies stopped the car to talk to the man, and during the conversation, the man pulled out a firearm.

Lt. Hugo Reynaga said the gun was in the man’s hand when the shooting occurred.

Deputies and paramedics attempted to save the man’s life, the department added.

“Deputies rendered aid until L.A. County Fire arrived to pronounce the suspect deceased,” Reynada said.

No deputies were injured, and the firearm was recovered at the scene.
