A man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle at Mt. San Antonio College, and investigators believe the collision occurred on purpose.
The man was struck in a campus parking lot at about 7:30 a.m., and when paramedics arrived, he was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
“Through our investigation, we determined that the collision was intentional and the victim was targeted,” LASD Sgt. Guillermo Morales said. “All we know is that the victim is an employee of the college.”
The victim was later identified as 63-year-old Ralph Barragan, a tram driver for disabled students through the access program at Mt. SAC. He had been working in the job for 15 years.
Authorities said the suspect slammed into the victim on a walkway right outside the bookstore, near the staff parking lot while other people were around.
The suspect, later identified as James Milliken Jr., was found at a bus stop just a few feet away from the car. He was taken to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. He was eventually arrested on suspicion of murder, officials said.
Milliken is a former employee of Mt. San Antonio College, and sources described him as disgruntled.
