The SWAT team and Major Crimes Bureau personnel responded about 12:30 p.m. to the 800 block of Ocean Park Boulevard (map), according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“For several hours, there were numerous attempts to have the suspect exit the location peacefully,” the release said, adding that he refused to comply and remained inside.

The man began to walk out after authorities fired tear gas, but he attempted to reenter the building when a sheriff’s dog was deployed, according to the department.

“The K-9 was able to control and bring the suspect to awaiting deputy personnel with no further incident,” the statement said.

The man, whose name was not released, was injured and treated at the scene, authorities said.

News video showed the shirtless suspect walking on one leg after he was taken into custody. A cast or large bandage appeared to be on his left foot.

The suspect had been sought as part of a murder investigation stemming from an incident that occurred Feb. 10 in the 8000 block of Vermont Avenue (map) in Los Angeles, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The investigation is ongoing.
