A man was in custody Saturday morning after allegedly brandishing a gun during an argument with a co-worker then barricading himself in a Calabasas recording studio for over nine-hours, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The man entered his workplace, located next to a large shopping center, around 7:20 p.m. in the 22300 block of Mulholland Highway (map), and told everyone to “get the hell out” after the argument began, according to LASD officials.
After the armed man threatened his colleague, the victim was able to exit the building and call for help, authorities said.
Deputies from the sheriff’s Malibu/Lost Hills station responded to the location. A SWAT team was summoned when the man refused to come out of the building, the Sheriff’s Department said.
During the barricade situation “there were numerous attempts to have the suspect exit peacefully,” the department said in a news release. The standoff ended when tear gas was deployed and the man surrendered without further incident, officials said.
He was taken to a local hospital then arrested and booked for criminal threats and assault.
No deputies were injured.
