A 48-year-old Azusa man faced 25 years in prison after he was convicted of sexually molesting a 10-year-old girl, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.
Victor Martinez pleaded no contest Tuesday to felony counts including sodomy of force on a victim under the age of 14, sexual penetration by a foreign object, committing a lewd act upon a child and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime, a release from the DA’s office stated.
The incident occurred on Oct. 20, when Martinez — a friends of the girl’s family — took the victim to get food.
He was accused of taking the girl to a parking lot, sexually molesting her, and then ordering her not to tell anyone what had happened, according to Deputy DA Babette Huley, who prosecuted the case.
The victim told her mother two days later and Martinez was arrested by Azusa police a short time later, Huley said. He was held on $1.2 million bail.
Huley added that during the investigation, authorities discovered he had previously molested the child.
Martinez, who was scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 21, was expected to receive a sentence of 25 years in state prison, the release said.
