Man, 12-year-old girl arrested in string of armed robberies across L.A. County

An 18-year-old man and a 12-year-old girl have been arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies across Los Angeles County.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the two were arrested Saturday after leading police on a pursuit following an armed robbery at a convenience store on the 3200 block of South Central Avenue.

Officers responded to the scene and located the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver sped off and led police on a chase. At one point, one of the occupants threw a firearm out of the vehicle, police said, which was later recovered by officers.

The pursuit eventually ended and both the driver and passenger were arrested.

The man has been identified as Nathen Sanchez, an 18-year-old resident of Los Angeles. Because the girl is underage, her name has not been released.

During their arrest, a large amount of cash that was stolen in the earlier robbery was recovered from inside the vehicle.

Nathen Sanchez, 18, of Los Angeles is shown in this mugshot shared by the Los Angeles Police Department on April 9, 2024.

Police say the two have since been connected to an armed carjacking in Boyle Heights that took place earlier that day. The pair are also suspected in other armed robberies that have happened in South Gate and Azusa, as well as additional crimes in greater L.A.

Sanchez was booked into jail and is being held on $175,000 bail as he awaits charges for robbery. Jail records show he was previously arrested in February on undisclosed felony charges and was released last month on his own recognizance.

Officials did not say what, if any, charges the 12-year-old girl might face.

Police believe there may be additional victims that have yet to be contact. Anyone with information about the investigation is urged to contact LAPD Newton Division Robbery Detectives at 323-318-3559. Anonymous tips can be made online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
