The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office is suing a self-described “Airbnb business coach” for allegedly renting rent-controlled apartments from landlords, then posting those units on Airbnb and other home-sharing sites.
Vladyslav Yurov and others allegedly earned more than $4 million using this method, which violates the city’s ordinance on short-term rental units, as reported by LAist.
“The city claims the defendants used fake host names on Airbnb and falsely advertised that properties were located outside the city of L.A., in places like West Hollywood and Culver City,” LAist reported. “Officials say the defendants violated the law because they didn’t live in any of these properties, and at least 10 of the units were covered by the city’s rent control protections.”
Using the now-deleted Instagram account @vladbnb, Yurov allegedly told his more than 10,000 followers “how to make money on Airbnb using other people’s properties.”
“You don’t get rich because your money chakra is blocked,” he said on social media, as reported by LAist.
