Los Angeles firefighters stood at attention as former first lady Nancy Reagan’s motorcade made its way from a Santa Monica funeral home to her final resting place at the presidential library in Simi Valley on Wednesday morning.
As the motorcade passed by firefighters alongside the 118 Freeway in the Granada Hills area, the firefighters paused in front of their fire engines, standing in salute about 10:30 a.m. Two fire officials stood atop a truck.
Firefighters were responding to two vegetations fires along the 118 Freeway that were quickly knocked down Wednesday morning, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Five fire engines could be seen stopped along the freeway, aerial video showed.
Separately, along three freeway overpasses, fire personnel planned to stand at attention “as an agency show of respect and admiration for our State and Nation’s former First Lady,” Humphrey said in an advisory.
The hearse arrived at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library just before 11 a.m.
Nancy Reagan was expected to be buried close to her husband after a private funeral on Friday.
