Long Beach police investigating fatal shooting

A Long Beach man is dead after a shooting Monday night.

Vernont Murray, 39, was shot multiple times in the 6000 block of Long Beach Boulevard a few minutes before 10 p.m., police said in a news release.

Murray was found on the ground near the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and Victoria Street, and he was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.

The shooter or shooters fled before police arrived, and the motive behind the attack is not yet known.
