Long Beach opens free water playgrounds for the summer season

Long Beach’s free water playgrounds are now open for the summer season.

The Wibit playground is available at two locations — Alamitos Beach and Bay Shore Avenue — and will be open from June 14 through Sept. 2.

The park offers family-friendly water activities including inflatable water structures, springboards, bouncers and monkey bars.

Long Beach officials said playground elements are meant to encourage water play such as swimming, balancing, climbing, jumping, sliding and swimming.

Beach access is also available to visitors at both locations.

In order to use the water playground, all participants, both adults and children, are required to pass a swim test.

Any child under 9 years old must be also accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Both locations will have lifeguard supervision daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Life jackets and personal floatation devices are not allowed while using waterplay features, officials said.

“Residents have been waiting for the return of these fun floating structures at Alamitos Beach all year,” said Vice Mayor and Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen. “I’m glad they are back for the summer, and I look forward to seeing residents and visitors climbing, jumping and having a blast in the water. I’ll be out there, and I hope to see everyone else too!”
