Pursuit suspects arrested after standoff with deputies in Compton

Two suspects were arrested Friday night after standing off with deputies following a multi-city pursuit.

The suspects were wanted for an assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer. When deputies tried to pull them over at around 7:35 p.m., they refused to yield, leading deputies on a pursuit.

The chase spanned several cities including the Lakewood and Long Beach areas before ending in a parking lot outside of a Bank of America in Compton.

The male driver, in an older model Honda Accord, pulled into the lot on the 500 block of South Long Beach Boulevard and was surrounded by deputies but refused to get out.

A spike stripe was successfully deployed, puncturing the tires. The suspect initially stopped in the parking lot before inching forward again as officers approached from behind. He opened the car door several times before shutting it again.

As the driver kept inching forward, less lethal rounds were fired toward the rear passenger windows.

Eventually, multiple patrol cars boxed the suspect in. Pepper balls were shot at the vehicle, with smoke entering the car from the open driver’s side window.

The male driver and a female passenger eventually exited the car to surrender and were taken into custody.
