Limited COVID-19 vaccines available without appointments at L.A. County mass vaccination sites through Monday

A limited number of walk-up appointments for COVID-19 vaccines are available at mass vaccination sites in Los Angeles County through Monday, officials announced Thursday.

Those 16 and older living or working in L.A. County can get vaccinated without booking an appointment at several different county sites, while supplies last.

Manuel Martinez, a public information officer with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, said there will be about 800 to 1,000 walk-up appointments available every day through Monday at the Forum in Inglewood, the Pomona Fairplex, Cal State Northridge and the Los Angeles County Office of Education vaccination sites.

“It has never been this easy to get vaccinated,” Martinez told KTLA. “If we want to get back to normal, show up and get vaccinated.”

The county sites are administering Pfizer vaccines and require teenagers ages 16 and 17 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said that while transmission has been slowed in the region, people are still dying every day from COVID-19.

“If you aren’t vaccinated, your chances of dying from COVID-19 is about 1 in 500. If you get vaccinated, your chances of dying from COVID-19 are less than 1 in a million,” Ferrer said. “The more people vaccinated, the less deaths we will suffer. Even if you had COVID-19 and recovered, you still need to get vaccinated to have more complete and longer-lasting protection.”

Countywide, there are over 700 vaccination sites, and some of the vaccines are being administered to people in their car, Martinez.
