L.A. County Fire, Parks and Rec vehicles collide head-on in Littlerock

A three-vehicle crash involving a Los Angeles County Fire Department vehicle in Littlerock sent three people to the hospital Thursday morning.

The crash occurred a few minutes after 10 a.m. on Palmdale Boulevard near Longview Road, where the eastbound LACoFD paramedic unit was responding to a medical emergency call with their lights activated, said Capt. Joe Zagorski of the California Highway Patrol.

Simultaneously, a Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation vehicle was headed west on Palmdale Boulevard before it collided with another vehicle, then moved into the LACoFD vehicle’s path, “where they hit head-on,” Zagorski said.

Three people were transported by air to Antelope Valley Hospital, two of whom had major injuries. All are in stable condition.

Two of those victims were firefighters, Zagorski said.

A fourth person, a civilian, suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.

“One thing we’d like to add to everybody is to be mindful of emergency vehicles with their emergency lights on,” Zagorski said. “They’re traveling with the best due regard they have, but they also have expedient reasons to get to where they’re going, to try to perform in this case life-saving efforts … Be mindful of where you’re going, avoid distracted driving and just make sure you’re always paying attention to what’s coming on the roadway so you can effectively avoid things.”
