A Los Angeles Superior Court Judge has sided with City Attorney Mike Feuer and issued a preliminary injunction blocking a cannabis farmers market from taking place, according to court documents.
In the ruling handed down Thursday, Judge Joanne O’Donnell also ordered the medical marijuana business that sponsored the farmers market to shut down over its failure to comply with Proposition D, a news release from Feuer’s office stated.
The voter-approved Proposition D, which passed in 2013, limited the number of medical pot dispensaries that can operate in the city.
“This is another victory in our continued enforcement of Proposition D,” Feuer said in the release. “L.A. residents voted to take sensible steps to limit the proliferation of medical marijuana dispensaries, and we’re doing just that.”
The City Attorney’s office claimed sponsor West Coast Collective circumvented the law to put on what was billed as the first-ever farmers market for medical marijuana.
Thousands of people attended the market, which was held in Boyle Heights over two consecutive weekends in early July.
The preliminary injunction prevents it from being held again pending a hearing to determine if the injunction should be made permanent.
