Reporter Jaime Chambers followed in the footsteps of a local TV news legend, his grandfather Stan Chambers, whose career at KTLA spanned more than six decades.
After Stan Chambers died Friday, Jaime came into the KTLA studios to share memories of his grandfather, whom he called “the real deal.”
“It’s not that we weren’t prepared for this, but I don’t think you can prepare for this,” Jaime Chambers said. “We’re reporters; we don’t get choked up that much, but this is a hard one to work on.”
Stan loved Los Angeles, KTLA’s viewers and those he reported on, Jaime said.
He was also a mentor for Jaime, who was a reporter for KTLA himself before moving to KSWB in San Diego.
Among Stan Chambers’ last words were, in a light whisper, “Well, it certainly is a wonderful day,” Jaime said.
“It was so emotional and powerful, and I think that summarizes his whole life, that he’s given so much to us and our family,” Jaime said.
