The incident began when a man in his 20s knocked on the door of a home in the 28000 block of Sloan Canyon Road (map) about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Jeff Preach, who was in the home with his wife and a male houseguest, answered the door.

“The next thing I know, it’s 10:30 at night and this guy hits me right in the face,” Preach said.

Preach, who had just had surgery on his back last week, wrestled the man into the den where he says he was able to pin the intruder until his house guest came down and took over.

Preach then went to get his shotgun and the two men held the intruder at gunpoint until authorities arrived.

The man allegedly got into an altercation with arriving deputies before finally being taken into custody, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Preach and his houseguest sustained minor injuries in the altercation, but did not require medical attention, the department stated.
