Two adults and three children were hospitalized, three of them in critical condition, after a hit-and-run crash in Orange County Sunday evening, officials confirmed to KTLA.
First responders with the Orange County Fire Authority responded to the area of Haster Street and Twintree Lane in Garden Grove around 7:30 p.m. on reports of the collision.
At the scene, first responders discovered two adults on bicycles who had been towing three children in carriers when they were struck by a motorist that fled the scene.
All five of the victims were treated by medical personnel before being rushed to nearby trauma centers, with one of the adults and two of the children listed in critical condition, according to Sgt. Nick Jensen at the Garden Grove Police Department.
Footage of the crash aftermath obtained by KTLA showed a heavy presence of police and firefighters, as well as onlookers. The wreckage of the bicycles was seen in the street as paramedics lifted one of the bloodied adults in the back of an ambulance.
Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly how the crash occurred, but police said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene and was captured a short time later.
It is unknown if alcohol and or drugs may have been a factor in the crash.
Haster Street was closed in both directions between Lampson and Chapman avenues while police conducted an investigation into the crash, according to OFCA Battalion Chief Mark Bazkoff.
