Hesperia teen drowns while swimming with family in Deep Creek Spillway

A Hesperia teen is dead after he drowned while swimming with his family at the Deep Creek Spillway Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department were called to the spillway at 4:09 p.m. after Edin Hernandez Reyes, 19, “for unknown reasons … drowned in the water and was pulled to shore,” officials said in a news release.


Despite the efforts of good Samaritans, deputies and medical personnel, Reyes was declared dead at a local hospital.

The investigation into Reyes’ death is ongoing,
