Evacuations orders were lifted after heavy rains on Halloween night triggered a mudslide in Camarillo that prompted one rescue and left a small dog dead, authorities said.

The mudslide, which occurred around 11:30 p.m. Friday, affected homes in the 6400 block of San Como Lane (map), according to Ventura County Fire Department Capt. Mike Lindbery.
Firefighters initially responded after a woman called 911 to report flooding at her home, according to Lindbery. While they were en route, the woman called back to alert authorities that mud had crashed through her residence and she couldn’t find her husband.
“We sent a lot of people up here, took a look at the house which was completely surrounded and full of mud by the time we got here,” Lindbery said.
The man had become trapped in waist-deep mud inside his own home and had to be rescued.
“We were able to locate her husband near the front door. He was buried up to his waist, unable to move,” Lindbery said. “Took chainsaws, got in there, cut the door out and we were able to dig him out and get him out.”
The man was not injured, but his dog — a dachshund — was killed in the mudslide.
The distraught man said that as of early Saturday, his dog’s body still had not been recovered.

The man’s home sustained major damage.
Eleven homes in the area were also evacuated as a precautionary measure, Lindbery said. The orders were lifted shortly shortly before 7:20 a.m., he tweeted.
The Red Cross assisted evacuated residents.
The mudslide occurred in the vicinity of the Camarillo Springs Fire, which burned some 28,000 acres in Ventura County during April and May last year.
