Garden Grove Hit-and-Run Leaves 2 Injured; Driver in Custody

A man has been taken into custody after a hit-and-run crash Thursday night in Garden Grove that injured a woman and a motorcycle driver, authorities said.

A motorcycle rider and the passenger of a Lexus were injured in a hit-and-run crash in Garden Grove on Thursday, July 10, 2014, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched at 11:30 p.m. to the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Dale Street (map), according to a news release from the Garden Grove Police Department.

A motorcycle had been traveling eastbound on Chapman when it collided with an older-model Lexus that was headed in the opposite direction and making a left turn into a parking lot, police said.

The motorcycle rider, described as a 55-year-old man, and a female passenger of the Lexus were transported to UC Irvine Medical Center, the release said.

The man was in critical condition after undergoing surgery; the female victim was listed in stable condition.

After the crash, the driver of the Lexus ran from the scene and was later apprehended by deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, according to officials. Authorities did not describe the circumstances under which the driver was taken into custody.

He was identified only as a 39-year-old resident of Anaheim.

The collision remains under investigation.
