Fundraising Page Created for Children of LAPD Detective Who Committed Suicide

A GoFundMe page has been created to raise money for the education of the three children of a Los Angeles Police detective who took her own life Tuesday.

Nadine Hernandez is shown in an undated photo on a GoFundme page started by her family.

Nadine Hernandez, 44, was found suffering from a gunshot wound after officers responded to a home in Whittier, according to Lt. Jay Tatman of the Whittier Police Department. She was later pronounced dead at a local hospital and the case is being handled as a suicide, officials said.

Hernandez, described on the page as a “loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend,”  had been with LAPD 19 years, the agency said.

The fundraising account was started at the request of her husband, Tyler, to help provide funds for the education of their three children, Christian, Ryan and Ava, in light of the financial hit the family will take for funeral arrangements.

“We are all hurting over this, but the people who need the most support are her loving husband, Tyler, and her children Christian, Ryan and Ava,” the page reads. “Because Tyler and the LAPD are preparing to give Nadine the beautiful service she deserves, Tyler requests that any and all donations be made through this page to help Nadine’s amazing children continue with their desired schooling.”

All proceeds will go directly to Nadine’s children, according to the site.
