Lifeguards were contacted regarding the 45-foot burning boat at about 7:30 a.m., said Lydia Barillas with the Los Angeles County Lifeguards.

A private vessel rescued the two people and their dog from the ship and kept them on their vessel until rescue personnel arrived, Barillas said.

None of the rescued was injured, Barillas said.

The boat was described as a cabin cruiser burning about three quarters of a mile off Leo Carrillo State Beach in a tweet from the Ventura County Fire Department’s public information officer.

The boats occupants were eventually taken aboard a U.S. Coast Guard ship, according to another tweet.

Aerial video from Sky5 showed the boat completely engulfed in flames before a firefighting ship arrived at the scene and doused the fire.

It was unclear what caused the fire.
