Firefighters Battle 12-Acre Brush Fire in Gilman Springs

Nearly 80 firefighters battled a 12-acre brush fire in Riverside County on Friday afternoon, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The fire began around 2:51 p.m. in Gilman Springs, south of Highway 60, fire officials said.

California Highway Patrol assisted with traffic control in the area and at least two Cal Fire helicopters were overhead.

It is unknown if any homes or buildings were threatened. The blaze was declared 50 percent contained around 5:12 p.m. and was knocked down by 6:55 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported, according to fire officials.
