Fire at Lomita apartment complex displaces several residents

A fire tore through an apartment complex in Lomita through the night on Saturday into Sunday, displacing several residents, according to officials.

The blaze was first reported by the Los Angeles County Fire Department at 6:50 p.m. Saturday. It was initially called a second alarm fire before it was upgraded to a third.

About 150 firefighters battled the fire at the Vista Verde Condominium complex in the 2000 bock of Palos Verdes Drive. Authorities said many residents were displaced and some were treated for minor injuries, but exact figures were not immediately made available.

The blaze caused the second floor of the building to collapse. The cause of the fire was unknown as of Sunday morning.
