A former English teacher at an elite private girls’ school in Hancock Park who was charged in February with allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student has pleaded not guilty to new sexual molestation charges involving a second student, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Monday.
Joseph Koetters entered the plea after a second alleged victim, also 16, recently came forward and told police Koetters had a sexual relationship with her between February and June 2004, according to the DA’s office.
Koetters, 47, was already facing two counts each of oral copulation and penetration with a foreign object involving someone under 18 after being arrested in February for allegedly initiating a year-long sexual relationship with a student in 2000.
Koetters, who taught English at the Marlborough School in Hancock Park, pleaded not guilty to those charges on Feb. 25.
The former teacher was charged with 10 additional counts of oral copulation and penetration with a foreign object involving someone under 18 based on the new complaint, the DA’s office stated.
Koetters was released Monday after posting an additional $350,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in court on June 23 for a preliminary hearing.
If convicted, Koetters faces more than 11 years in state prison, according to the DA’s office.
