Disneyland is planning to move one of its security checkpoints further away from the theme parks in order to secure a larger area and keep guests from having to go through the screening system multiple times.
The plan is to move the western checkpoint by the end of the year so the Downtown Disney area is inside the secured area, the Orange County Register reported.
Guests arriving at the Mickey & Friends parking structure will go through a security checkpoint before boarding their tram to Downtown Disney, according to the Register.
Other checkpoints are expected to be added between ESPN Zone and Rainforest Café, and between ESPN Zone and the Earl of Sandwich Restaurant, the newspaper reported.
In addition to securing a larger area, officials hope the added checkpoints will result in a better experience for Disneyland and California Adventure parkgoers who leave to visit Downtown Disney because they would no longer have to go through the checkpoint again when they return.
The new security locations would also bring the Downtown Disney monorail station inside the secure zone, Theme Park Insider reported.
Disneyland’s other security checkpoint, on the east side of the parks, is also expected to move, but not until a new parking garage is completed, according to another Insider article.
