Disneyland New Rules: Ban on Oversized Strollers, Smoking Goes Into Effect

A ban on smoking and oversized strollers at Disney theme parks went into effect Wednesday as the Anaheim resort gears up for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge later this month.

The rule changes, announced in late March, are designed to reduce congestion, make it easier to move around inside the parks, and provide a more enjoyable experience overall, according to Disneyland’s website.

One of the key changes is a limit on stroller size, which can no longer be larger than 31 inches wide and 52 inches long.

Stroller wagons also will not be permitted inside Disneyland or Disney California Adventure.

“The good news – many strollers on the market, including many double jogging strollers, fit within these size guidelines,” Disney said in a statement on its website when it announced the rule changes back on March 28.

Those unsure about the size of their stroller can rent them at Disneyland for a cost of $15 per day for one stroller, or $35 per day for a double stroller.

Also starting Wednesday, smokers will no longer be able to light up inside the theme park, the Esplanade or the Downtown Disney District. The ban includes electronic cigarettes and vaping.

However, there will still be designated smoking sections outside those areas, as well as in the resort’s hotels.

In addition to the Anaheim resort, the new rules also cover the Florida theme parks, Disney’s water parks and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

The changes go into effect just weeks before the May 31 opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland.

Between May 31 and June 23, those with valid theme park admissions will be required to have a reservation – at no additional cost — in order to access the new land.

Disney will begin taking reservations this Thursday (May 2) at 10 a.m. PT, but those who want to make one are urged to visit the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge page at 8 a.m. PT.
