An investigation is underway after a crash between a car and an ambulance left one person dead in Moorpark late Tuesday night.

Authorities believe the car was traveling westbound on the 118 Freeway about 10:15 p.m. when it veered in front of the ambulance and the two vehicles collided, California Highway Patrol Officer Casey Oppelt said.

The driver of the car, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at scene, Oppelt said. The driver of the ambulance was taken to a local hospital for treatment but is expected to be OK.

Investigators are still trying to determine what prompted the car to swerve in front of the ambulance.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the CHP’s Moorpark station at 805-553-0800.
