A car careened off a cliff Saturday morning in Topanga Canyon, igniting a small brush fire that was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
The fire was reported about 10:02 a.m. near the 19000 block of Pacific Coast Highway (map), said Erik Scott, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
South Topanga Canyon Boulevard, about 1 mile north of PCH, was closed in both directions for about three hours as a result of the incident, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Firefighters from the LAFD’s Malibu station and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the location and knocked down the blaze, Scott said.
A search was conducted for possible victims of the crash, but none were found in the vehicle or elsewhere, according to the LAFD.
An investigation into the incident was underway.
