A 5-acre brush fire burning in Jurupa Valley injured two people Friday, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The blaze was initially reported as a 1-acre fire at about 5:45 p.m., the Fire Department said on Twitter.

The fire, which is located near Limonite Avenue and El Palomino Drive, was burning in a riverbed.

Though it extended to the roof of a nearby Rite Aid, firefighters kept the blaze on the roof.

At 9:25 p.m. Friday night, the fire had burned about 2 to 3 acres. Mapping of the fire the following morning revealed that the fire had grown to about 5 acres in size, according to the Fire Department.

As of Saturday morning, the fire was 70% contained.

Two people, identified as a firefighter and a civilian, suffered injuries from the fire. Both were taken to the hospital with minor injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
