A mother came home Tuesday to find her daughter dead, prompting a manhunt for the suspect — a 14-year-old boy who fled into the woods in Rocklin, California, before he was ultimately arrested, according to police.
Just before 11 a.m. the Rocklin Police Department responded to a 911 call from a woman living on Monument Springs Drive near Calverhall Way, KTLA sister station KTXL in Sacramento reported. The woman said she came home and found her 13-year-old daughter dead.
When police arrived, they found the teen girl in her bedroom with signs of blunt force trauma to the head. The girl died from her injuries, police said.
A 14-year-old boy had run into some fields near the home, according to police.
After a 40 minute search, police took the boy into custody without incident near Greenbae Road.
Police said a woman and two juveniles live at the home. The suspect and victim are relatives, but their relationship is not known. Local media outlets have reported that the two are brother and sister, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice are aiding in the investigation.
