Authorities on Saturday were investigating the discovery of a male body in a drainage area near San Clemente High School.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s search and rescue K-9 team found the unidentified person’s body about 12:30 p.m. in the flood-control channel between a McDonald’s and the school’s baseball field, according to a news release from the law-enforcement agency. Coroner’s officials were called to the scene.

The case was being investigated as a suspicious death, but the manner in which the person died has not been determined, the statement said.

The discovery was made during a search for Nick Stevens, who was reported missing from San Clemente, the Sheriff’s Department said. Stevens was last seen Nov. 6 at a 7-Eleven in the 1800 block of North El Camino Real, and since that time he has been sought by homicide investigators, air support, and search and rescue personnel, according to the news release.

The Orange County Coroner Division was expected to determine the deceased person’s identity.
