Body discovered on 110 Freeway in South L.A., prompts hourslong closure of northbound lanes

A body found along the 110 Freeway prompted officials to shut down most of the northbound lanes through South Los Angeles for several hours Monday morning.

The discovery was reported shortly after 5:30 a.m. on the right shoulder of the freeway just past the 105 Freeway, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson said.

The body was covered and surrounded by several patrol vehicles as investigators stood nearby, aerial video from Sky5 showed.

The unidentified person was described as a man in his mid-30s wearing a gray sweater and black pants, according to the Los Angeles Times, which reported authorities said the man had suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

But CHP Officer Shanelle Gonzalez later told KTLA there were no obvious signs of foul play, and investigators were still trying to figure out how the body ended up on the side of the freeway.

The death investigation prompted officials to close most northbound lanes of traffic, prompting heavy delays. The freeway was finally reopened several hours later, Caltrans announced about 11:20 a.m.
