Newport Beach police were searching for a man who handed a teller a note demanding money and successfully robbed a Wells Fargo Bank branch on Monday.
The bank robber, described as a white man in his mid-20s, walked into the branch at 3600 East Coast Highway (map) at 11:26 a.m. and left after one minute, according to police.
He then returned at 11:35 a.m., handed a teller a demand note and fled on foot after receiving cash. He was last seen going north on Orchid Avenue, according to a news release from the Newport Beach Police Department.
He was described as about 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 4 inches tall and about 150 pounds. He had short brown hair and was clean shaven with no visible tattoos, police said.
He was wearing a gray T-shirt, black pants, dark shoes and black sunglasses described by police as “possibly Prada.”
The bank is in Corona del Mar, in a busy commercial area of the affluent coastal Orange County city.
